Digital Wedding Guestbook

For a wedding I facilitated a digital guestbook. It consisted of 3 parts: 1. an application where people could record a personal message/sound for the couple in 6 steps in front of a camera and microphone 2. an application to playback all the messages (including scans of additional written explanations and audio-only recordings) 3. two videosample remixes of all the material

Senna: Videosampling for kids

Playful educational program that enables kids to make music with the videos of their choice. I participated in this project while working for Eboman/Smadsteck. It is completely made with max/msp (but it does include a few custom java externals). I was responsible for the video playback, audio effects, pattern mixing and editing, file loading and sequencing. This setup is installed at ‘De Klankspeeltuin’ in Muziekgebouw aan het IJ (Amsterdam) and it is also touring around schools in the Netherlands.

Interactive Stairs

Together with Hessel Stuut I developed two interactive stairs.   The first one was a prototype  for EeStairs and presented during 100 % design 2009 in Eindhoven. It controlled sound and animations on tv screen connected to it. The second one was the ToonTrap which was part of Hessel’s graduation work for the art academy. Of this last one you can view a demo video:

LightPaint

An example of a simple application that invited participants to interact with the projections. To see the joy in the eyes of the people who were having fun with this was the best reward.

SenS: Videosampling Application

Jeroen Hofs (Eboman) performs with a sensor-suit which is used to control a realtime audiovisual sample composition. For this he uses custom made software made with Max/MSP called SenS. It is used for a variety of performances, from corporate presentations to experimental theatre to popmusic festivals. I started working on this project in 2005 during my internship and I continued working on it after graduating in 2008. My main focus is on the sound effects and how the suit controls the audio and video. You can find more about the software here (including some tasty demo reels!).  Currently we are working on the successor which will feature more interaction, smoother graphics and better overall quality…

DIY eurorack modular projects

The last few years I have been diving into eurorack modular (diy only). I started making my own modules and now I have quite a bunch of them available as pcb/panel sets. all the info regarding the current available projects can be found here in this Google Sheet if there is something new or interesting it will probably be first posted on my instagram

M4L: Mutated Texturizer

The MutatedTexturizer and the MutatedTexturizerAlt are free max for live plugins based on the firmware for the eurorack module Clouds by Mutable Instruments. MutatedTexturizer is based on the stock firmware by Émilie Gillet, MutatedTexturizerAlt is based on the Parasites software which includes additions by Matthias Puech (Émilie and Matthias gave their permission to share this with you, but they are not involved in the port itself)

M4L: Mutated Macro Oscillator

The Mutated Macro Oscillator is a free max for live instrument which is based on the code behind the Mutable Instruments’ module Braids. This code has been ported to a max external (mac only) and it has been made polyphonic (8 voices) and a filter has been added (designed by Surreal Machines) plus 2 envelopes as modulation sources.

+

Max/MSP: grainstretch~

Flexible realtime timestretching and pitchshifting with a granular engine in Max/MSP. With this external you can expand your max toolkit for natural and experimental playback. It incorporates the algorithm used by Mattijs Kneppers in his granular stretcher patch and adds a load of extra options and features.

projection mapping on tunnel

Live projection mapping on tunnel during the 2011 christmas eve church service of Crossroads amsterdam.

new article published in JASA

I am co-author of a new article in the Journal of Acoustical Society of America. This is the second JASA article which is for a part based on the research for my Master’s Thesis

Max/MSP: diracLE~

High quality timestretching and pitchshifting external with autotune option for Max/MSP. The package includes 3 Max for Live devices as well.

Nu(l) Twintig – Ambient Drones

I made 3 ambient drones for the documentary “Nu(l) Twintig” by filmmaker Finn Szumlas, cameraman Roel van ‘t Hoff and researchers Karel Smouter en Inger van Nes (PKA).

Syrene: soundscapes

Syrène Saxophone Quartet asked me to make soundscapes for their program about JacobTV on Festival Zwart in Zwolle.

Xsens: Music

I did the music for this informative video for various scientific motion capture products by Xsens.

+

Senna: Video online

Finally! A promo video is online for Senna, the videosampling software we made for kids. The video is made by Thijs Albers.

+

VideoSampling: Dog Test

Here is a little testvideo I made only consisting of youtube videos of dogs. No extra sounds were added, though I must admit that I did use some audio effects to transform the sound.

+

Arduino: dvd sync

I made a little device that synchronizes +-10 dvd players with infrared remote control messages for Hessel Stuut‘s solo exhibition ‘De Barbaren Komen’. It supports 2 different brands of dvd players and you can easily set the dvd looptime (which is remembered even when the power is disconnected).

Max/MSP: Video Edit App

I made an application for Australian artist Andrew Newman. This enabled him to automatically edit videofiles based on a textfile and a pool of videos. He used this for his installation “Love Letter by Letter” which was exhibited in the CAST Gallery in Hobart, Australia.

Max/MSP: VT external object

This external for max/msp is a mix between [send]/[receive], [grab] and [value] with some extra functionality. It can be easily voiced and it even improves the communication between different devices in Max4Live.

Mix: FRS-July 2011

A new mix is online! June is skipped, but July tries to make up for that, it’s a building mix, starting quite relaxed and ending energetic.
