Hessel pointed me to a video made by Michel Gondry (one of my "heroes") that I didn't know yet. It's a raw one made for Björk, and I love it...
(see higher quality version here)
ps to link this post to my previous post: here is a track by Björk that features Evelyn Glennie
A few months ago I stumbled upon this beautiful TED video about a deaf percussionist:
(see better format including download options here)
I really loved her talk and demonstration, the way she approaches sound and music (while being deaf) is really inspiring. Yesterday there was a documentary about here on TV called Touch The Sound. I recorded it yesterday and watched it today. And... it was one of the most beautiful documentaries I have ever seen! Maybe I am biased by my own love for sound :-).
You can borrow my VHS-tape if you like to decide for yourself :-).
here is a fragment of that documentary:
I was looking something up on GoogleMaps tonight and I stumbled upon the beauty of the Waddenzee

(grr... it all looked nice in Firefox, but then I checked IE and all the picture-placement was messed up, so I do it this way now)
went there yesterday, here are some photos of highlights (in my opinion)
(all pictures found on Flickr, and they link to the photographers)
In the research group where I graduated high speed photography (necessary for slow motion videos) was one of the main instruments used in research. I used for my own research a camera that could shoot up to 25 million frames per second enabling us to investigate processes that happen faster than a microsecond.
Anyway, that was some background info. This week I found this nice video on youtube with some spectacular slow motion:

So I graduated in may for my applied physics study (see thesis if you like). And since the beginning of august I work for Eboman as a programmer (company name: Smadsteck), he is an Amsterdam based media-artist that performs with an interactive suit. Yes, the same guy where I did my internship.
It's good to be back and I really enjoy my work. My first task is to program audio-effects so that you can make a bassline out of every recorded sound while still recognizing the sound (or at least the way towards the bass-sound should be able to follow for listeners). The results of the first 5 days work can be seen from this video of his Lowlands performances:
I made 2 tracks with 2 groups of 8 people by using solely sounds they made. This was all done on an island (see photo) and I bought a pair of USB-powered speakers to make this possible with my laptop. What I did was recording samples, edit and tweak them on the computer and load them in samplers in Ableton Live. Because of the limited time I prepared by making some sequences in advance (but I only used sounds recorded on the spot).
Here are the results:
Track 1
Track 2
Besides that we also had 2 performances/ services with WorshipLAB (site is a bit outdated). WorshipLAB is some sort of alternative church service with djs, visuals, spoken word and more. This time I did the visuals, using material made by Rik and Geerard and some stuff I found myself. To make this possible I spent some weeks programming a personal setup in MAX/MSP+Jitter that has the capability to run 8 videos, 2 picture feeds, 1 webcam and graphical input from a WACOM drawing tablet, controllable with a midi-controller. The screen was split into 4 separate 'channels'/corners. See screenshot:

hello there...
... I'm gonna try and be a bit more active here
first thing I did is upgrade the blog itself to be able to fight the spam-comments (yuk!) a bit better (thus losing my custom template, that's the reason for this prefabricated fresh look, well, my custom template was outdated as well)
expect some more posts in the near future...

I am terribly late with this: this release came out half april 2008 on DotDot records on vinyl distributed worldwide and on mp3 via beatport (and others).
The vinyl includes the original version by joel armstrong, a remix by me, and a reworked version of my remix by joel. The digital version also includes a remix by gerwin koudijs and another version of my remix.
Because of this release joel also asked me to do a dj-mix for Proton radio.
Listen here
(it starts with my remix and then Joels rework of my remix, see for more info this post)
The version of my remix that joel reworked is doing really well, it has been played by Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, Pole Folder, Lucien Foort and possibly James Zabiela.
I am really happy with this opportunity and the release itself.
it starts almost meditative, then becomes a bit cloudy, but the weather is clear and sunny towards the end
